Tornike Shengelia Stays with Virtus Bologna.

Tornike Shengelia, despite being entangled in (yet again) rumors of his departure from Virtus Bologna, will ultimately remain with the northern Italian team. This was confirmed by the Italian team’s executive director, Luca Baraldi.

Interest from Other Teams.

Several teams, primarily Crvena Zvezda, were eagerly waiting for Tornike Shengelia to part ways with Virtus Bologna and leave Italy altogether. The “Red and Whites” under Giannis Sfairopoulos had the Georgian forward/center on their list, along with other teams. Barcelona was one of these interested parties, but now he is no longer available to any team.

Official Statement from Virtus Bologna.

The executive director of the team from northern Italy, Luca Baraldi, officially announced that “Toko” will not only remain for the 2024-25 season, activating his option, but “we intend to soon offer him a new multi-year contract.” According to Baraldi, Shengelia is “a player and a person we value immensely.”

Shengelia’s Outstanding Season.

At 33 years old, Shengelia is coming off an excellent season on a personal level. He averaged 14.5 points, 5 rebounds, and 3.3 assists in the Euroleague, making Virtus competitive for most of the season, before they eventually ran out of steam and were eliminated in the regular season of Europe’s premier club competition.
