Monaco Nears Signing of 22-Year-Old Guard Juhann Begarin

Monaco is very close to signing 22-year-old guard Juhann Begarin, who currently plays for Nanterre and was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 2021.

Monaco’s Strategic Move.

A few hours after announcing the extension of Mike James’ contract, Monaco feels ready to proceed with their next move in the market. This move may not concern the acquisition of Nick Calathes (which is also expected), but it seems that the case of Juhann Begarin has received a protocol number.

The 22-year-old guard, known for his great potential, was selected in the 2021 NBA Draft at No. 45 by the Boston Celtics. According to a Spanish publication, he has already agreed with the team from the Principality.

Begarin’s Career Path.

Begarin started his career with Paris, which won the EuroCup this year and will compete in the EuroLeague in the new season. However, in the 2022-23 season, he chose to play with Nanterre in France, to gain more playing time and several opportunities to showcase his talent. He largely succeeded, averaging 7.5 points, 3 rebounds, 1.5 assists, and 1.2 steals in the league. As a result, the EuroLeague is expected to open its doors for him.

Monaco’s Reinforcement Strategy.

Monaco intends to strengthen their French roster, and the young guard, standing at 196 cm and possessing rich natural gifts, will get a significant opportunity in his career. Notably, coach Saša Obradović had identified Begarin’s potential when he scored 28 points against Monaco in a league match. Obradović made it clear to the management that the young man has a huge prospect.
