Milos Theodosic was suspended by the Euroleague – What happened?

Milos Theodosic has been suspended by the Euroleague for two games due to a significant altercation with the referees during the Crvena Zvezda versus Efes game in Istanbul. This incident occurred amidst Crvena Zvezda’s largest Euroleague defeat, with a scoreline of 100-55, visibly frustrating their players. However, Theodosic’s confrontation with the referees was not the only issue during the game.

Joel Bolomboy, Crvena Zvezda’s starting center and a notable player in this year’s Euroleague, engaged in a heated argument with Anadolu Efes’ Tyrique Jones, resulting in fines for both players under Euroleague regulations.

Milos Theodosic received the most severe punishment, being suspended for two games and fined €15,000. It is worth noting that this is not the first time Theodosic has clashed with referees during a match. A similar incident occurred a year ago during a game against Virtus Bologna, where he was ejected from the match.

Here are the details of the punishments imposed on the players from the Crvena Zvezda vs Efes match.

  1. Tyrique Jones, playing for Anadolu Efes Istanbul, has been fined €5,000 for his involvement in a reported altercation during the team’s home game against Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, as outlined in Article of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
  2. Joel Bolomboy, a member of Crvena Zvezda Meridianbet Belgrade, has been fined €2,500 for a similar incident during the team’s away game against Anadolu Efes Istanbul, in accordance with Article 27.2.e of the Euroleague Basketball Disciplinary Code.
  3. Milos Theodosic has been fined €15,000 and suspended for 2 matches for confronting referees, also during the game against Anadolu Efes Istanbul.

Milos Theodosic won the MVP title in the Euroleague Round of 16, scoring 27 points with 2 made 2-pointers, 6 made 3-pointers in 9 attempts, and all 5 free throws. Additionally, his 14 assists tied his best performance of the EuroLeague this season. Theodosic also contributed 2 rebounds and 2 steals, earning his sixth career MVP of the week title and his first since November 2016.
