Kalinic's Quick Move: Released by Barcelona, Signed by Red Star.

Nikola Kalinic has returned to Belgrade for Red Star, with his transfer announced shortly after his release from Barcelona.

The return of Kalinic to the city and the team he played for before going to Spain was anticipated, but the speed at which it happened was remarkable.

At noon on Friday (21/6), Barcelona bid farewell to the Serbian forward with a social media announcement. Kalinic, who played for Barcelona from 2022 to 2024, was publicly wished “Thank you and good luck” by the Catalans. Just half an hour later, he found himself back in familiar territory.

Kalinic’s History with Red Star.

Red Star welcomed Kalinic back for the third time. His first stint was in 2014-15, a year before he joined Fenerbahce, where he, along with coach Zeljko Obradovic and Kostas Sloukas, won the Euroleague in 2017. He returned to Red Star for the 2021-22 season before moving to Barcelona, and now he’s back once more.

New Additions and Renewals

Kalinic’s addition is the second transfer for coach Giannis Sfairopoulos’ team this year. The first was Isaiah Canaan from Olympiacos. Additionally, Red Star has secured contract renewals for Milos Teodosic, Rokas Giedraitis, and Branko Lazic.
