Goga Bitadze: The Next Big Addition to Panathinaikos.

Eddie Tavares Stays at Real Madrid, Vincent Poirier Heads to Istanbul.

Eddie Tavares will stay at Real Madrid, while Vincent Poirier is set to leave Madrid for Istanbul. With Panathinaikos in search of a center to partner with Matias Lessor for the upcoming season, the team has its sights set on the 24-year-old, 213-centimeter-tall Georgian NBA player, Goga Bitadze.

Panathinaikos’ Summer Upgrade Plan.

As reigning European champions, Panathinaikos is committed to upgrading various parts of their game this summer. The acquisition of a center to complement Matias Lessor is a top priority. Initially, there were discussions about approaching Eddie Tavares, but he has decided to renew his contract with Real Madrid, awaiting only the official announcement. Consequently, rumors emerged about Panathinaikos’ interest in Vincent Poirier, who seems to have been convinced by Anadolu Efes, offering him 2 million euros per year.

Goga Bitadze: A Promising Talent.

Just as Olympiacos adjusts its plans after Keenan Evans’ injury, Panathinaikos is also refining its strategy for a backup center. Alexander Balcherovski was not deemed ready for the Euroleague level, but Georgia’s Goga Bitadze has shown immense potential.

Bitadze’s EuroLeague and NBA Experience.

Goga Bitadze, a 24-year-old center standing at 213 cm, has proven his capabilities on both sides of the court. In the 2018-19 EuroLeague season with Buduchnost, Bitadze played 13 games, averaging:

  • Points per game: 12.1
  • Two-point percentage: 59.7%
  • Three-point percentage: 31.2%
  • Rebounds per game: 6.4
  • Blocks per game: 2.3

His impressive performance led to his selection by the Indiana Pacers as the 18th overall pick in the 2019 NBA Draft. Bitadze gradually earned his place in the NBA, with his best season in 2021-22, where he averaged 7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game.

Bitadze’s Potential Role in Panathinaikos.

During the 2022-23 season, Bitadze was traded to the Orlando Magic, where he averaged 5 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.2 blocks in 15.4 minutes per game. As his contract with Orlando concluded, Bitadze’s performance caught the attention of EuroLeague teams, including Panathinaikos.

For the 2023-24 season, Bitadze’s annual salary was $2 million, and while he could secure a similar salary in the NBA, he has the potential to earn twice as much and play a more significant role in the EuroLeague. Panathinaikos is keen on adding him to their roster.

Bitadze’s Impact on Panathinaikos.

Goga Bitadze has the ability to attack in various ways, is a determined and intelligent defender, and brings valuable EuroLeague experience. His best EuroLeague game was at OAKA with Buduchnost, scoring 16 points with 3/6 three-pointers, grabbing 8 rebounds, and making two steals in 23 minutes. If he joins Panathinaikos, he is likely to make frequent impactful appearances at OAKA.

Panathinaikos fans can look forward to an exciting addition to their team, enhancing their chances for another successful season in the EuroLeague.
