Did Olympiacos also acquire Tyler Dorsey in addition to Keenan Evans?

A recent report has further fueled the already robust rumors regarding Keenan Evans’ acquisition by Olympiacos, as discussed a few days ago. According to an article by Italian journalist Alessandro Luigi Maggi, both Keenan Evans and Tyler Dorsey are set to join Olympiacos starting from the upcoming season. However, it’s worth noting the persistent rumors surrounding Tyler Dorsey’s potential move to Panathinaikos, which have circulated since earlier this year when Panathinaikos expressed interest in signing him.

Panathinaikos recently secured Kentrick Nunn with a one-year contract and had been actively pursuing Tyler Dorsey since February. Dorsey had previously mentioned Panathinaikos, indicating the possibility of joining them in the summer, especially considering his anticipated departure from Fenerbahce, where he has been playing until now.

“Panathinaikos is building something promising. It’s evident to everyone. We have to give credit where it’s due. They are performing exceptionally well this year, especially at home. It’s refreshing to witness such an atmosphere,” stated the homegrown guard on the sidelines of the Panathinaikos AKTOR’s game against Fenerbahce at the OAKA gym.

Who is Tyler Dorsey.

Tyler Quincy Dorsey, known as Τάιλερ Κουίνσι Ντόρσεϊ in Greek, was born on February 18, 1996, in Pasadena, California. He is an American-Greek professional basketball player who currently plays for Fenerbahçe Beko in the Turkish BSL and the EuroLeague. Dorsey also represents the Greek national basketball team, showcasing his talents on the international stage.

Dorsey’s basketball journey began after graduating from Maranatha High School in Pasadena, California. He continued his basketball career at the collegiate level, playing for the Oregon Ducks.

In the 2017 NBA draft, Dorsey was selected by the Atlanta Hawks with the 41st overall pick. He signed a two-year contract with the Hawks and later played for the Erie BayHawks in the NBA G League.

Midway through the 2018-2019 season, Dorsey was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies, where he became a valuable contributor, earning significant playing time during crunch moments.

In 2019, Dorsey made the move to Europe, joining Maccabi Tel Aviv of the Israeli Premier League and the EuroLeague. He showcased his scoring ability and versatility, notably recording a career-high 19 points in a EuroLeague game against Olympiacos.

Dorsey’s next stop in Europe was Olympiacos of the Greek Basket League and the EuroLeague, where he continued to impress with his skills on both ends of the court.

In 2022, Dorsey briefly returned to the NBA, signing with the Dallas Mavericks under a two-way contract before eventually parting ways with the team.

Returning to the G League, Dorsey played for the Texas Legends before signing with Fenerbahçe Beko in March 2023. His decision to join the Turkish powerhouse aligned him with his Greek national team coach Dimitrios Itoudis and teammates Nick Calathes and Kostas Antetokounmpo.

In the 2023-2024 EuroLeague season, Dorsey continues to make an impact, averaging 8.9 points, 1.6 rebounds, and 1.3 assists per game, showcasing his versatility and skill on the court.

What is certain is that Tyler Dorsey will depart from Fenerbahce this summer, but the club he will sign for remains uncertain. If Panathinaikos pursues him, it will hinge on whether Kentrick Nunn renews his contract. Panathinaikos is eager to retain Nunn, having identified him as a formidable guard, but Nunn is considering the possibility of pursuing a career in the NBA.
